Week 12...Spring Break Reading

I read 2 hours of Sexism in America and 70 pages. I didn't reach my goal, but got pretty close. I've learned that women in the 1950s were expected to sit at home with the children and take care of the house. Women realized things had to change; they started leaving home for jobs. Women joined marches, boycotts, and sit-ins to changed what was expected of them. Men were not good at allowing women in the work place. They only had pink collared jobs. It talked alot about abortion and whose body it is. I firmly disagree with it being women's right to kill a poor innocent baby making me a very bad feminist, but oh well!
TOTAL TIME: 42.5 HOURS

This project is a very good idea, but many students I want to assume abuse it. I actually read all the books I say I do and many hours. I think students often take advantage of the trust you have for them.

I've read 7 books I'm on the 8th now. They include: The Shack, The Choice, At First Sight, A Bend in the Road, Twilight, The Wedding, Nights in Rodanthe, and now reading Sexism in America.

Goals for Spring Break

My Goals for spring break is to start Sexism in America, the book I'm starting to read for Sociology. I'm thinking I should read at least 100 pages. This book is going to take awhile to read. This project has been pretty great I love reading. The only thing I'm not too keen of is blogging all the time, but I can get over it.

WEEK 11....Nights in Rodanthe

This past weekend I got a new book from the library called Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks. So far I have read 3 hours of the book. TOTAL TIME 39.5 HOURS. A woman named Adrienne was left by her husband for another woman after 16 years of marriage and three children..One weekend Adrienne's friend Jean needed someone to look after her Inn because she was at a wedding and a man named Paul was going to be staying there. But during that time a terrible storm was expected to pass through the town. Adrienne is recalling this story because her daughter lost her husband to cancer and she won't listen to anything she has to say because she lost her husband and loved him. Her mom and dad chose not to work out their problems. Adrienne thought telling her daughter this story may have her realize she lost love too. A little background on Paul. He too was divoriced. He was a surgeon who worked too much and was never around to help raise his son Mark. He hated his father. He moved to Ecuador to help treat medical patients. Paul was planning to go down there for a year to visit him, know him, and work out their problems.
Paul was in surgery one day removing a tumor from a woman. It was a standard procedure. Nothing went wrong, but the woman somehow died. The case went to court, but Paul was proven innocent. One day he got a letter from the woman's husband saying he needed to speak with him in person. After a few months of receiving the letter Paul decides to go where he stays at the Inn Adrienne is watching for her friend Jean.
At the Inn they make small talk, tell each other about their lives, etc. They develope a deep relationship and Adrienne is still depressed from her divorice this is what she needs to help her get over her Ex. Paul talks to the woman who died her husband. He talked about his wife and made Paul feel extremely guilty even though it was not his fault.
They were stuck in the storm for hours talking, drinking wine, and falling in love. In the book they have relations a couple times. But sadly the next day he is leaving for Ecuador. He says he'll stay with her, but she knows he has to go patch things up with his Son, which is what he does.
Paul wrote letters and called her frequently....as far as I got, we'll see what happens next.

WEEK 10...THE WEDDING

This past weekend i read the Nicholas Sparks book The Wedding in 4.5 hours. TOTAL TIME: 36.5 HOURS. The book is about a man and woman who have been married for 29 years, and he forgot their anniversary. This book is the sequel to The Notebook. Jane his wife is very sad and goes for weeks to visit their son in NYC. He has been a terrible husband and father over the years mostly caring about work and not spending time with their family. Their daughter Anna is going to get married and Jane is so excited to start planning the wedding, but it is a very quick wedding that will take place at her father(Noah)'s home where they grew up as children. Wilson is trying to be a better husband and wants to learn that his wife is still in love with him. They have date nights, midnight banter, and quiet walks. Jane is very busy making plans for the wedding, but since the forgotten anniversary Wilson has been planning a surprise for Jane. Anna is going to get married on their 30th anniversary date. It turns out that the wedding is not for Anna but for Jane and Wilson. He wanted to give her the wedding they never had. It was a very delightful book in which i cried alot as it has happened with all the Nicholas Sparks books I have read.

Week 9...Class We've taken that relates to my Book

I would say the class that I have taken that mostly relates to this movie is Biology/ Anatomy because they are partners for that class and learn the phases of mitosis which we did in that class. Also the learn how his body functions which has to do with anatomy and physiology.

WEEK 9...Post

This week i finished Twilight in 2 hours. My total time is 32 HOURS. During the rest of the book Bella goes to Edward's house and meets his family. They go out during a thunderstorm and play baseball during that time other vampires come out and smell her. The one guy sees Bella as his next challenge to kill. Alice takes Bella to Phoenix to a hotel, but the vampire meets her at the ballet studio she went to as a child. It ends up that she is bitten by him and someone needs to suck the wound. It has to be Edward. He almost is not able to stop so she ends up in the hospital because she almost died from lack of blood. Edward is afraid to be around Bella because he doesn't want to lose control of himself. He tells her is would be better off if they weren't together, but she won't stand for that. She is willing to become a vampire to be with Edward for all eternity.

Week 8...Post

Prom is coming soon to Forks. All the guys have asked her, but she still says no. She doesn't want to go and would rather be with Edward. Bella and Edward go on a secret date planned by him. They end up going hiking and have a delightful time. Bella gets to see what he looks like in the light: his skin looks like diamonds. Edward talks about his hunting experience with his brother Emmett. This week I read half an hour so my total now adds up to 30 HOURS

Week 8...SONG

The mood and theme of Twilight is a love story so the song i chose is I can't help falling in love with you by Elvis Presley. Bella and Edward rush into love before barely knowing each other, but no matter what they do they can't keep their love from growing. They were meant to be together. Bella wants to do anything to be with Edward regardless of the fact that he is a vampire. She would let Edward take her whole life: which may include becoming a vampire.

WEEK 7

I've read 1 more hour of Twilight. My reading has slowed down a bit. I've been really busy lately. Not much more has happened with my book. I'm a little over half way done. Bella is finally invited over to Edward's home and meets his family. They all are friendly except Rosalie. She seems to give Bella the death stare everytime she's in sight. They get to know each other alot more like their interests. Edward makes Bella stop asking him the questions, and he gets his turn to ask her some. They realize how strong their love is for each other, and there is no possible way for them to be apart. They are in too deep. Now they've gone public it could end very badly if they break up. TOTAL TIME: 29.5 Hours.

Week 6

I've read 1.5 more hours of Twilight. Not too much has happen. After Bella is rescued by Edward, they meet her friends who already ate supper. So Edward promises to make sure she gets something to eat, but of course him being a vampire he doesn't need to. She asks him the most important question. Are you a vampire?! and what do you eat. The answer of course was yes and he drinks blood. But he doesn't want to be a monster so him and his family eat animal blood. I think this is a very good project! I always want to read, but I would never have thte time. Now I actually make time to start reading. I've read alot more than I ever have. TOTAL TIME 28.5

Week 5. One more picture.

Edward and Bella can't stop thinking about each other. She knows he is dangerous, but her love for him won't allow her to not talk to him or even think of him. He is willing to protect her to the ends of the Earth. He saves her from being mugged and raped by a group of men. Their love is too strong to be broken.

Week 5...Pictures

Bella's father Charlie gets her a car from a Native American man whose son fixes up cars. Bella remembers visiting him as a child. His name is Jacob and he developes a crush on Bella. He is the one who tells her that Edward is a vampire.

Bella moves from the nice sunny weather of Arizona to the wetlands of Washington. That area is filled with trees and many beautiful scenery. There are few days where it's not snowing or raining.

Twilight is about Edward who is a vampire who falls in love with Bella at first smell: of her blood that is. Edward doesn't come to school for many days after their first meeting because he can't stand being around her without smelling her blood.

Bella's parents are divorced. They have been for many years. Every summer Bella would come and visit her father, but it has been a few years since she has. Now as her mom found a new beau she decides to move in with her Dad.

Week 5.2

After I finished A Bend in the Road, I started the first book of the Twilight saga. I've read 2.5 hours.
My first picture is about vampires because Bella learns that's what Edward is from her Indian friend named Jacob. His dad is where Bella got her truck from.

Bella just moved to Forks, Washington from Arizona. She had lived with her mother and decided to try living with her father for a while. She wasn't the biggest fan of all the snow and rain that this area brought. Even though Bella was a pale as snow; she still loved the sun.

Bella managed to make new friends at her new school. There was this one family that intreged her. The Cullins. They were adopted children to the doctor in town. They were all very pale, but dressed well and were very good looking. There was one especially that she couldn't help but stare at. His name was Edward whom she sat next to in Biology. When he saw her, his face looked like he was disgusted by her. He didn't show up for days after they first met. The day he came back they talked and apologized for being rude, but said they shouldn't be friends. He was dangerous.

Edward had been over by his car. A van came towards Bella and couldn't stop because of the ice. Edward had rushed over to quickly it was humanly impossible and pushed away the van. He didn't want her to talk about it to anyone.

Total Time: 27 hours

Week 5

I read 5.5 hours of the book A Bend in the Road. It's about a man named Miles, a sheriff, who's wife died while jogging and got hit by a car. That happened two years ago. Since then Miles has been trying to find out who did this terrible thing, ruined his life, and took away the most precious thing in the world to him Missy, his wife. Together they had a son Jonah who is now in second grade. His previous teachers just let him slide because they knew what happened to his mom. But his new teacher Ms. Sarah Andrews was not going to let that fly; he was so far behind compared to the other students. She sets up a meeting with Miles. From the moment they saw each other they couldn't stop thinking about each other. Sarah agrees to tutor Jonah 3 days a week in exchange for a fan for their classroom. Miles looked forward to each day he had to pick Jonah up from school. Sarah had been previously married which ended in divorice when her husband learned she couldn't have children.
Miles grew up the courage to ask Sarah out to dinner. From then on they spent a lot of time together, and Jonah loved her coming around.
Miles had a tif with a neighbor named Otis. He thinks that's who killed his wife, and he was willing to kill him. One day he went to his house put a gun to his head and took him away in a police car. His boss was very angered when he heard this because he went without permission or a warrant. Miles was put on leave. He was so distressed he spent less and less time with Jonah and didn't talk to Sarah either.
Sarah confesses the trouble to Brian her brother. He tells her that it was him. He killed Missy, but it was an accident. Sarah knew she had to tell Miles. He assumed the worst when they showed up. He thought she knew the whole time and felt betrayed. He took Brian in his car and was driving to the police station. They got into a car accident and Brian hurt his head, but it all was an accident just like Brian had said about Missy's death.
Miles knew he had to get over it, which he did. But him and Sarah drifted apart. She didn't expect to ever see him or Jonah again till Christmas when they showed up on her doorstep. Total time: 24.5 hours.

Week 4.2

Read 4.5 more hours of at first sight and finished it. Total time 19 hours. The rest of the book is about Jeremy moving down to Boone Creek, NC from New York, NY to be with Lexie. It's a big adjustment he's not sure how to fit in and he has no friends. In the town there is a man named Rodney who is dating Rachel, but is secretly in love with Lexie. Lexie doesn't want anyone to know of the pregnancy at least not yet. Jeremy tells his best friend Alvin who isn't too excited about him getting married to someone he barely knows. Lexie works at the library so Jeremy would go there every day and try to get some writing done for his newspaper article back in New York. He is not able to write anything. Lexie's Grandma Doris gives him a book of proof showing all the people she predicted the sex of their babies all correctly. He wasn't sure if he wanted to use it. One day Jeremy caught Lexie at a park with Rodney and they were holding hands, but she never mentioned anything to him. She also found her at his house after finding that Rachel was missing. He began to wonder if he trusted her at all. He also found in Doris's book Lexie's initials. She never said anything about it at all to him. During that time they bought a house and started renovations which were draining Jeremy's bank account.
The day of Jeremy leaving to go to his bachelor party in NY him and Lexie got into a huge fight and he left. She thought he'd never come back. At the party, Jeremy had time to talk to his dad and his father told him that Lexie had been calling them, sending pictures and post cards of how they had been doing and he never knew it. It turns out when Rachel was gone she had visited Alvin in NY and she had spilled out all of the drama between Jeremy and Lexie. Alvin and Jeremy got into a huge fight, and Jeremy said he never wanted to see Alvin again and left to go back home to Lexie.
When he got there, they both apologized. They were good. The baby kept on getting bigger and their wedding was approaching. They had their wedding which was small and romantic just like she wanted. They later found out that the baby maybe born with a amniotic band causing deformities. Every 2 weeks they went there for an ultrasound always being negative. The day of the birth came. The baby was born healthy and well. But after labor, they heard Lexie gasping. She had died right after labor. Jeremy was devistated and almost even hated his daughter Claire because of what she took from him until he saw her. She was beautiful just like her mother and grew up to be just like her.

They end up getting engaged. They wonder if they are rushing their relationship and if they truly love each other. My Christian application is that we are supposed to wait til after marriage to have sex and have children with someone who we know very well that will help us grow spiritually. Total time read 14.5.

Week 3

Thursday i started a new book called the choice by nicholas sparks. It's about Travis who is a vet his neighbor Gabby. Her dog is pregnant. She thinks his dog got hers pregnant. She came over ranting to him. He was as nice as could be and told her to take her to the vet. She was so embarrassed of herself. The next day she went to the vet to see Travis there. Gabby vowed not to talk to him for quite some time. Until her dog had complications during labor. After, Travis asked Gabby to coffee. Gabby has a boyfriend of 4 years who continuously puts off the idea of their marriage. Travis flirts with her, and she deep down in her heart likes it. One afternoon they go with his friends to the beach. They end up pairasailing and having a cookout. Later on Travis invites Gabby over for dinner, and they kiss! She is shocked, but secretly happy. Gabby ends up having to choose between Travis and her boyfriend. Next part of the book talks about Travis wishing his marriage ends this way sounding like a divorice. But actually they got into an accident, and Gabby is in a coma. The author tells us that they built their dreamhouse on the peice of land that Travis owned where they lived very happily with their children. Travis has to decide to pull the plug or keep her alive. They have 2 kids who miss their mom terribly. Gabby wanted to die not kept on a feeding tube (because Gabby had watched a man at the hospital suffer and eventually resent his wife who was in a come. Gabby didn't want that to happen between her and Travis), but Travis couldn't do it. His friends helped him alot with the girls, but when they tried to comfort him he got angry. They eventually stopped coming around to visit him. He visited his wife every day and slowly went back to work. One day he got a call from Gabby's nurse "she's awake!" he was overjoyed. This book talks about how far we will go for love. Travis went to the ends of the earth for Gabby. This book touched me, and I cried like a baby. I read this book in 6.5 hours. My total time now is 13 hours. Tomorrow Joey is bringing me the book At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks.

On Mack's way home drom the shack, he got into a car accident. He told his wife about his weekend; she thinks it's partly from the pain medication he's on. But in the end she forgave him. The Shack.

I've read 30 minutes of the book The Shack.
It's written by William Paul Young. The story so far is about a man named Mack who lives in Oregon; it's the middle of winter, and he has to go get the mail. He receives a letter from his dad who was a drunk when he grew up. The letter invited him back to the shack to spend time with his papa. He had left his parents' home at the age of 14. He later married Nan, and they had a few children together. Mack will soon encounter the Great Sadness. I haven't read what it's about yet, but according to the back of the book it's about his daughter being abducted while on vacation to the shack.
Total Reading Time: 30 minutes.

My first Blog!

My goal for this project is to continue reading for the 3 months not just to get a good grade, but also for my personal gain intelectually. I usually don't read much because I never have the time so hopefully this will keep me reading. I will try to read everyday after practice not on game days and on Sunday nights. Hopefully I will get my book from my Grandma Sunday after church so the I will start reading.
